    Position Title:

    Archives and Special Collections Intern - Loyola Notre Dame Library (Baltimore, MD)

    (20 hours/week, 16 weeks)

    Position Description:
    The Loyola Notre Dame Library (LNDL) is offering one in-person internship for current or recent graduate students pursuing a master’s in library science or public history with coursework in archives. Working in the Archives and Special Collections department under the mentorship and supervision of LNDL archivists, the Archives and Special Collections Intern will participate in accessioning, arranging, and describing archival collections. The Intern will also have the opportunity to participate in other activities of the department, which can include public services, environmental monitoring, management of the rare book collection, and outreach initiatives.

    Position Responsibilities:
    -Assess collections, create processing plans, and process collections in consultation with LNDL archivists;
    -Create finding aids with ArchivesSpace, utilizing best practices established by the department;
    -Participate in public services duties, such as monitoring the reading room or responding to reference inquiries;
    -Participate in outreach activities, such as promotion of the Archives via social media and the library website;
    -Assist in the management of the rare book collection.

    Required Qualifications:
    -Graduate student or recent graduate of a master’s program in library and information sciences or public history with coursework in archives;
    -Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    -Demonstrated ability to work accurately with attention to detail;
    -Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives;
    -Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through archival practice;
    -Knowledge of archival standards and practices through education and/or work experience.

    Schedule and Compensation:
    A suggested schedule of 15-20 hours per week for 16 weeks. Standard hours will be between Mondays-Fridays between the hours of 9AM-5PM. Schedule may vary to allow participation in special events and in coordination with the direct supervisor. The internship will conclude no later than June 30, 2023. Compensation is $20/hour. Experience may be applied towards a field study or practicum, subject to faculty approval.
