Executive Director, DC Public Library Foundation
Position Description
Position Statement: DCPLF is a small non-profit in the library sector. It seeks a qualified and energetic professional to fulfill the organization’s role to financially support the programming priorities of the DC Public Library (DCPL). Under the guidance of the DCPLF Board of Directors and in collaboration with the leadership of DCPL, the Executive Director will insure the Foundation’s position and effectiveness as the leading voice for philanthropic and private contributions for DC library activities.
Responsibilities
- Executing and overseeing fundraising goals and objectives of the DCPLF
- Implementing policies and procedures pursuant to the directions of DCPLF Board of Directors and legally required of the organization
- Establishing, maintaining, and growing relations with DCPL leadership, staff, and funding community
- Directing day-to-day administrative activities. General Duties and Deliverables: As the leader and spokesperson of DCPLF
- Support all aspects of the work of the Board of Directors
- Serve as the liaison to and promoter of the partnership with DCPL
- Execute policies that respond to regulatory compliance, and funder mandates
- Implement recommendations to meet the goals and objectives described in the annual, agreed upon Proposal (work plan) with DCPL
- Cultivate and grow donor and community relations
- Produce, in collaboration with Board Treasurer, reports and materials for internal and external audiences, including annual budget, monthly/quarterly financials, and donor activities
- Supervise staff, consultants, and non-Board level volunteers working for DCPLF
- Insure timely adherence to donor and DCPL disbursements and accounting procedures
- Provide operational support related to planning for and conducting special events Professional Skills and Attributes
- High level of self-motivation/self-direction
- Professional leadership style that promotes cooperation and collaboration
- High degree of comfort with public speaking and interactions in the public domain
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Ability to connect with and attract diverse audiences to support the work of DCPLF
Qualifications
- College degree with experience in fundraising and grants management
- Record of successful fundraising in the public/private sectors
- 3-5 years of experience in a leadership position in the non-profit sector preferred
- General knowledge of financial planning and fiscal analysis
- Demonstrated understanding of library sector preferred
