    Children's Librarian- DC Public Library

    Position Description:

    This position is within the Public Services unit of the District of Columbia Public Library system and serves as a Children’s Librarian. The position is responsible for professional functions that support the efficient operation and best use of the libraries by children ages (0-12).

    Under the general direction of a Branch Librarian, the incumbent provides reference and advisory services to customers; provides assistance in study oriented activities and in developing children’s reading interests; plans, schedules, conducts and evaluates children’s programs and class visits, develops and maintains the branch collection of children’s literature to meet the needs of the community; compiles reading lists on subjects assigned and prepares the display of books.

    Qualifications:

    A Master’s degree in Library/ Information Science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited graduate program plus at least 1 year of relevant experience working in directly and in-person with customers/clients in children population. Experience working in an urban public library preferred.
