Libraries Build Communities!

On May 1, 2010, the District of Columbia Library Association will dedicate a single day to help to refresh and rebuild the collections of two Senior High School Libraries in the District of Columbia Public Schools.

DCLA volunteers will work with the school librarians at Wilson and Anacostia Senior High Schools to catalog, weed, pack and clean library books and materials. Student volunteers from the schools will be on-hand to do the heavy lifting but librarians and friends are needed to give muscle and experience to this effort.

DCLA will be providing snacks and lunch as well as funding for supplies and materials to make the day a success and ensure that we can really make a difference in one day of service.

Volunteers will select the school where they want to work and DCLA coordinators will work with everyone to arrange for transportation as needed. Wilson Senior High is at 3950 Chesapeake Street, NW and Anacostia Senior High is at 1601 16th Street, SE.
