National Library Workers Day: Discussion on Librarian's Salaries

For this program we will have a panel of speakers that will discuss employment statistics concerning Librarians, Library Assistants,and Library Technicians such as how information is put together to create a fact sheet on employment and earning wages for the Bureau of Labor Statistics . The panel will also discuss current and national wage estimates, and the process of union salary negotiations. 

We have confirmed the following panelist: 

 

  •   Audrey Watson, Economist for Occupational Employment Statistics at the U.S. Department of Labor 

  • Elizabeth Cross, Researcher for the Librarians section of the Occupational Handbook of Employment Statistics at the U.S. Department of Labor 

  •  Kenneth Despertt, Executive Board Member and Shop Steward for AFSCME Local 1808 (American Federation of State, Country & Municipal Employees)

  • Aliqae Geraci, Chair of Standing Committee on the Salaries and Status of Library Workers for ALA-APA (American Library Association- Allied Professional Association) via Skype/video conference (from Cornell University).
