Melissa Adler on “Cruising the Library” - Book Talk/Signing

  • 23 May 2017
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • East City Bookshop, 645 Pennsylvania Ave SE #100, Washington, DC 20003

Celebrate LGBT Pride at a special book talk by Melissa Adler, Assistant Professor at the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Kentucky.

Adler will discuss her research and analysis of the ways in which the history of sexuality is documented through library classification systems. Sophisticated, engrossing, and highly readable, "Cruising the Library" provides a critical understanding of library science, an alternative view of discourses around the history of sexuality, and an analysis of the relationship between governmentality and the cataloging of research and information--as well as categories of difference--in American culture.

Books will be available for purchase and light refreshments will be served. Book-signing to follow.

Presented by the District of Columbia Library Association, East City Bookshop, and the Association of Graduate Library and Information Science Students at The Catholic University of America.
