    Position Title:

    Eckles Librarian

    Position Description:

    The George Washington University Libraries & Academic Innovation (GWLAI) seeks nominations and applications for the Eckles Librarian. The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 11:30 am - 8:30 pm; and Friday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. Additional evening and weekend hours may be required. This is a designated on-site position and not eligible for telework. Eckles Library is a branch of the GWLAI and plays a pivotal role in the life of the Mount Vernon Campus. Colloquially known as The Vern, the campus is home to approximately 700 undergraduate students as well as the University Writing Program, Honors Program, the Women’s Leadership Program, and the Forensic Sciences department, as well as student living-learning communities.

    Located on Foxhall Road in upper Northwest Washington, DC, less than three miles from the Foggy Bottom campus, The Vern combines the best of both worlds, offering a collegial, community-based liberal arts atmosphere that is fully integrated into a world-class research university in the heart of the nation’s capital. This position offers a unique opportunity to experiment with new ideas and services for an engaged undergraduate community.

    Primary Job Responsibilities:

    ● Serve as a campus connector and liaison to academic departments and student life programs on the Mount Vernon Campus, and as the GWLAI representative to the Mount Vernon Campus Senior Staff.

    ● Support students, staff, and faculty through a range of services to include research consultations, library instruction, and workshops. Depending on course schedules, conduct library instruction for undergraduate and graduate level courses in partnership with faculty, including partnering with GW’s first-year University Writing Program or other programs.

    ● Coordinate events at the library and represent the library at events on the Mount Vernon campus

    ● Deliver consistently excellent customer service through outreach and through access services (circulation and course reserves) consistent with established LAI policies.

    ● In collaboration with others, assess and improve services.

    ● Assess use of library spaces, report facilities issues, and help to plan for improvements.

    ● In collaboration with GWLAI’s web content team, ensure that the Eckles website contains up to date information.

    ● Contribute to one or more strategic services or teams in GWLAI as appropriate.

    ● Evening and occasional weekend work required. The work location for the position is Eckles Library. Basic Qualifications:

    ● ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science or other advanced degree with relevant experience.

    ● Demonstrate the ability to partner with academic departments to advance scholarship in the disciplines.

    ● Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with others in an environment committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.

    ● Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. This position reports to a Director of Research Services.

    APPOINTMENT RANK & SALARY: Salary is negotiable, contingent upon rank, skills and qualifications and is competitive for DC-area academic libraries. Comprehensive benefits package includes 22 days/year paid annual leave; 12 days/year paid sick leave; paid winter break and 7 other holidays; medical, dental, and vision; 401(A) retirement plan, 4% base and GW will match 150% of the first 4% of your 403(B) contributions, up to a maximum of 6% of your eligible compensation; tuition assistance; generous ongoing support for professional development; and paid parental leave.     This position is classified as a Council of Librarians position. This position is a continual reappointment position with reappointment periods of up to 3 years.
