    Branch Manager-Prince George's County Memorial Library System

    Position Description:

    The Prince George's County Memorial Library System is searching for experienced librarians to manage multiple library branches. Branch Managers are responsible for oversight of daily branch operations, managing an age level department in a large branch or an information department in a generalist branch, and supervising professional and paraprofessional staff. Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills that include writing, coaching, and presenting, creativity, technology skills and demonstrated values that support diversity and inclusion.

    Responsibilities and Duties:
    Oversee daily operations of the library branch (projects and initiatives, branch procedures, administrative tasks, Sunday Service, computer lab, special collections, etc.).
    Supervise library branch staff; monitor and evaluate job performance; oversee staff training and development, as needed.
    Collaborate with Talent and Culture on the issues of hiring, discharge, suspension, disciplinary action, performance evaluations, and the grievance process.
    Provide reference, reader’s advisory, and computer assistance to library customers and provide instruction on the use of library catalog and databases.
    Oversee library information/circulation services desk.
    Initiate and maintain community contacts and represent the Library in the community.
    Promote library services and collections to library customers.

    Qualifications:
    Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
    Three to five years of professional library experience including three years of supervisory experience.
    Maryland Professional Public Librarian certificate.
    Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and methods.
    Knowledge of public library reference tools, including web and database searching.
    Strong written and verbal communication as well as customer service skills.
    Excellent organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
    Flexible and adaptable to change.
