    Supervisory Librarian, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Libraries and Archives

    Position Note:

    "Are you passionate about the future of library research support for scientific discovery at the world’s largest museum library system? Do you have experience as a supervisory librarian in a natural history or general science research library? The staff of the Natural History Museum Library Research Centers are dedicated to stewardship of a collection of more than 400,000 print monographs and journals housed in the Natural History Museum Main Library, the John Wesley Powell Library of Anthropology, and the Botany and Horticultural Library, all located in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, and the Museum Support Center in Suitland, Maryland. Staff also select and provide training on thousands of online journals and database resources. The successful candidate would support the foundational work of the library while understanding new methods of scientific discovery and implementing services in support of this dynamic research environment. The Supervisory Librarian would join colleagues across the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives (SLA) and the Smithsonian in cooperative processes and projects to support the mission of the Smithsonian to increase and diffuse knowledge. The successful candidate will also participate in the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), headquartered at SLA.

    Duties:

    Performing the full range of personnel management duties.

    Coordinating space, equipment, training, collections of data, budgets preparation, reference service, access service, inter- library loans and innovative services to the research community.

    Serving as the specialist in natural history reference and information research and technologies to work with researchers in advanced fields of science using a wide variety of information resources, including databases and other knowledge networks
