    Position Title:

    Library Technician (Federal Library) – Silver Spring, MD

    Responsibilities: 

    Interlibrary loan work, processing orders and sending materials to other libraries, tracking ILLs to make sure they are recorded and within the CONTU Guidelines
    Track loaned and borrowed materials to insure timely return through Integrated Library Systems (ILS)
    Answer patron questions; provide orientation and support for in-processing patrons
    Process library materials, including preparing and updating shelf lists
    Identify and prepare library materials for binding
    Provide integrated library system support
    Perform basic literature searches as well as animal protocol searches
    Scan micro-film, operate microfilm machine
    Troubleshoot basic technology issues related to EndNote and Online Resources
    Register staff for access to databases and other online services; organize routine training for staff members
    Perform copy cataloging and original cataloging
    Provide circulation and ready reference support
    Prepare requisitions or other procurement documents for purchase of library materials
    Prepare multi-media and/or paper-based presentations

    Qualifications: 

    U.S. Citizenship mandatory
    Must have 3 years specialized experience in a library that provides general knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service including library systems, procedures, and theory (16 credits in library science may be substituted for specialized experience)
    Must have experience or training that demonstrates knowledge of Integrated Library Systems (ILS), library applications, and other information technologies
    Archival knowledge highly desired
    Must be familiar with DOCLINE and OCLC WorldShare
    Must be able to adapt quickly/change gears on a dime in a fast-paced and constantly changing work environment
    An Associate Degree from recognized college or technical institute
    Highly Desired:

    Experience performing medical or scientific research
    Experience with EOS integrated library system
    Experience developing LibGuides
    Experience working in a federal library
