DAR Library: Serials Assistant

    The DAR Library is seeking a highly organized professional to join our team as the Serials Assistant.

    As part of the acquisitions team, the Serials Assistant handles all of the library's subscriptions to periodicals and journals, including recording incoming materials, tracking and ordering missing issues, and managing subscriptions and renewals. The serials assistant also performs basic cataloging to add new issues to the library's main catalog. This individual also prepares periodicals to be sent for binding and tracks their return and prepares them to be put on the shelves.

    The Serials Assistant works with the online wish list for the library and the organization's accounting software to manage orders and payment for subscriptions. All library staff work reference desk shifts in the main library and assist with various projects within the department including shifting books, inventories, shelf checks, and so forth.

    The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, be comfortable with learning and mastering computer programs, and have a solid customer service background. Familiarity with libraries or archives is preferable, as is an interest in genealogy. Previous work in a library, archive, or museum setting is required, and a bachelor’s degree in history or a related field is preferred.

    This is an in-person position in Washington DC, and works a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.
